DTF vs sublimation: which one is right for you?
Both methods are great; the best one depends on the products your customers ask for most.

|---|---|---|
| Fabrics | Cotton, polyester, blends | Polyester or coated items only |
| Garment color | Light and dark | White or very light |
| Feel | Slight texture | No feel |
| Hard goods | No (not mugs) | Yes: mugs, tumblers, panels |
| Startup cost | Medium (or buy by the meter) | Low |
| Minimum order | From 1 piece | From 1 piece |
Choose DTF if…
- You mostly sell cotton and colored t-shirts.
- Customers ask for hoodies, caps, uniforms and bags.
- You want detailed logos on dark garments.
Choose sublimation if…
- You sell mugs, tumblers, pillows and mouse pads.
- Your shirts are white polyester or sportswear.
- You want to start with a small investment.
💡 Many shops use both: sublimation for mugs and gifts, and DTF transfers bought by the meter for cotton t-shirts.
Frequently asked questions
Which one lasts longer?
Both last a long time when applied correctly. Sublimation doesn't peel because it is inside the polyester; DTF withstands many washes if pressed correctly.
